Humantay Lake Tour Itinerary
Cusco - Mollepata - Soraypampa - Humantay Lake
Your Humantay Lake tour will begin early, with pickup from your hotel in Cusco around 4:00 a.m. Our trip will begin with a comfortable 3-hour bus ride to Mollepata, where you'll enjoy a delicious buffet breakfast awaiting you under the light of the mountains and the sunrise. Don't forget to take photos!
After breakfast, we will continue our journey by bus to Soraypampa (12,795 ft), the starting point for the Humantay Lake Hike. Upon arrival, you will feel the presence of the snow-capped mountains of Humantay and Salkantay, mountains known as the Apus or gods. After a safety briefing and recommendations from your guide, we will provide you with natural remedies for altitude sickness. Remember that the trail gets increasingly steep. If you wish, you can rent a horse to make your trip easier, or if the altitude is affecting you.
During your hike, remember to wear comfortable shoes, bring water to hydrate, and walk slowly at your own pace. As you ascend, you'll feel the altitude more; the terrain is somewhat rocky. We'll provide you with basic safety poles for the trek, but you're welcome to bring your own. Don't litter along the trail; remember, we're sustainable.
Once you arrive, you'll see the incredible turquoise waters of Humantay Lake. Located at 4,200 meters (13,780 feet) above sea level, the lake is an incredible reward for your efforts. Climb the highest peaks, take plenty of photos, and you'll have plenty of time to explore the area. Walk along the lake's shores and enjoy the viewpoints. The higher you go, the more turquoise the waters will appear. Your guide will explain and give you directions on how to return.
After enjoying some quality time at Humantay Lake, we'll begin the descent back to Soraypampa, which takes approximately an hour and a half. Upon arrival, we'll enjoy a sumptuous buffet lunch at a local restaurant, replenishing our energy after the hike. Finally, we'll board our private transportation and return to Cusco, arriving around 6:30 p.m., filled with unforgettable memories of one of Peru's most beautiful places.
